The Battle of Punkleswitz....

Two of the marcher lords Count Theobald and Alaric, have caused much trouble squabbling amongst themselves and raiding other's domains.

Duke Wittendorf, Lord of the Marches, has joined his cousin Count Tiddenheim, plus Count Walden and the Knights of St Walpurga. Together they will bring the two recalcitrant Counts to heal.

Both sides will meet near Punkleswitz....

Duke Wittendorf, marches in the middle of Count Tiddenheim retinue...
Count Tiddenheim leads his men forward...
On their way to join him are Count Walden and his men, plus the Knight of St Walpurga...
Counts Theobald and Alaric with their retinues advance towards the field of battle.
They form up...

Their opposition led by Duke Wittendorf has also formed up....

the battle lines close slowly....


the Knights of St Walpurga have found a way through a small hamlet, to make a flanking move 

The two sides move closer .....

the Knights of St Walpurga, make their flank attack.....
as the two battle lines crunch into each other.......
Count Alaric's men counter the flanking attack....
Count Tiddenheim's billmen and axemen get stuck in .....
A number of dismounted knights hit the center .....
The Dukes' forces are slowly gaining ground.....
Count Theobalds men are struggling to hold back Count Tiddenheim's billmen & axemen 
The Knights on foot are making headway in the centre..
Count Alaric's men are managing to hold their ground....
The Knights in the centre make a gap...
The small reserve moves up to be ready to exploit the gap...
Count Theobald's men have had enough, they break and run.....
meanwhile Count Alaric and his men fight on....
but they lose heart and and flee as well....

Revised Schema....

 A quick summary of the revised schema, game area and names of factions....

Outline of threads

  • Rolfe Haube (aka 'Robin Hood') adventures, tussles with the Sheriff of Rottenheim
  • Questing in the Sackwald forest - the King and his trusted knights
  • Peasant Uprisings/Trouble
  • Marcher Lords (Counts), squabling over territory and raiding their neighbours.
  • The threat from the ??? - the Marcher lords will have to fight them (adversary TBD)

Retinues:

Large(~30)

  • Duke Wittendorf, Lord of the Marches Red/White shield with Black Bear passant a gauche (retinue not yet done).
  • Count Tiddenheim, Black Bear passant a droite on a yellow shield
  • Count Theobald, Sheriff of Rottenheim, Red/Green shield with White Wvyvern
  • Colunt Alaric, Black shield with red chevron

Small (~15)

  • Count Walden (minor)... Yellow Lion rampant on rad field, bottom shield white/ochre
  • Knights of  St Walpurga ... Black cross on a white shield.
Other:
  • Rebellious Peasants ~20
  • Rolf Haube and his merry men ~ 7 (or more as needed)
  • The Kings Questing group - the King plus at least two knights, servants and minstrels etc

'Scale the Walls"....

 I've done a simple castle/town wall siege setup, with my 40mm figures, to check what suitable items I have. Enough to 'scale' the walls ...

 Added some animal heraldic devices shield transfers to two of my 40mm retinues shields. Lion for one and a Wyvern of the other.

Sculpt & Cast - first metal

Test castings from recently made Medieval moulds, basic mounted and foot figures with a try at weapons, shield and separate heads.

A few problems with some slopping casting technique and a few things to fix in the moulds (more air vents). Otherwise pleased with the result. I can cast shield, sword and hand axe OK - longer pole arms not coimg out so well.

Trouble at Dinkeldorf... ...

A knight and some men at arms arrive to search the village of Dinkeldorf for miscreants and rebels...

An armed peasant watches the soldiers as they arrive at the edge of the village....

the soldiers move into the village....
and spread out to search the buildings...
Some peasants burst out of a building and attack.....
A couple of men-at-arms are killed, one peasant down as well.
More peasants arrive .....
some peasants attack from the woods....
Both sides take a breather, as the Knight and his men form a sort of defensive circle
With more peasants coming up the road from the church, the Knight leads his men forward in a charge to try to break through the encirclement...
They are pushed back and the peasants get ready to try and finish them off....
Almost back to back the Knight and his men fight the peasants...
A breakthrough... the Knight and his men close to him have despatched their attackers....
With a clear path ahead they leg it as quick as they can to safety, the archer lets loose a few arrows to keep the peasants at bay.....
