Trouble at Dinkeldorf... ...

A knight and some men at arms arrive to search the village of Dinkeldorf for miscreants and rebels...

An armed peasant watches the soldiers as they arrive at the edge of the village....

the soldiers move into the village....

and spread out to search the buildings...

Some peasants burst out of a building and attack.....

A couple of men-at-arms are killed, one peasant down as well.

More peasants arrive .....

some peasants attack from the woods....

Both sides take a breather, as the Knight and his men form a sort of defensive circle

With more peasants coming up the road from the church, the Knight leads his men forward in a charge to try to break through the encirclement...

They are pushed back and the peasants get ready to try and finish them off....

Almost back to back the Knight and his men fight the peasants...

A breakthrough... the Knight and his men close to him have despatched their attackers....

With a clear path ahead they leg it as quick as they can to safety, the archer lets loose a few arrows to keep the peasants at bay.....

Forces and casualties...

• The Peasants: 21 including one archer;  11 casualties
• The 1 Knight on foot,  11 men at arms (including 1 crossbowman & 1 archer); 7 casualties (MAA)

The collection so far ..

 Put out all the medieval figures on the table to see where I'd got too. Two large retinues, two small retinues, some questing knights, civilians, armed peasants and 'Robin Hood' group.

There is another 30+ figures on the painting table...

A job lot of 120 medieval figures acquired a couple of months ago have been gone through and the best 40 or so of them saved for use. A large batch awaits painting

my existing scaling ladders are just right for the wall sections I'll be using.

Sculpt & cast : Initial masters...

 While adding to my collection using 40mm commercial figures, I usually have a go at sculpting some of my own for the period (so I can drop-cast additional figures).

Initially I've done a mounted man at arms, mounted knight and some sort of levy foot. I will have to make up accessories,- swords, shields etc.... After that I'll probably do another levy foot pose and an archer plus some alternate heads.

Battle at Altmansdorf

On the heathland near Altmansdorf, two opposing forces converge....

Count Walden & Knights of St Walpurga arrive on the edge of the heath

Approaching them was Count Theobald and his retinue...

Both sides deployed...

Count Walden and the Knights of St Walpurga stood their ground,

with their flanks protected by a wood and a farm

Count Theobald and his men close the gaps as the archers exchanged arrows...

 

Both sides sent a small group to take control of the farm... they were soon in action...

Count Walden's men and the Knights charged....

Count Theobald's men held the charge, 

but were pushed back somewhat by the Knights of St Walpurga

Count Theobald's men win the fight to control the farm...

The main melee continues

Then Count Theobald's men get the edge

 and start to hack down their opposition...

Their opponents break and run for it, some of  Count Theobald's men give chase.
